The input image viewer demonstrates significant strengths in processing large, high-resolution black and white images, such as engineering drawings and well logs. Its core design emphasizes efficiency, utilizing highly optimized code to facilitate rapid decoding and smooth navigation between files and pages, even on devices with limited processing capabilities. Unlike many alternatives, FIV accesses images directly from cloud storage services or the device's camera roll without requiring importation or temporary data storage, thereby streamlining workflow and preserving device storage.

Current enhancements include support for 3D-Touch interactions, enabling Quick Actions, Peek/Pop previews, and accelerated pressure-sensitive panning, which contribute to a more responsive user experience. The application’s feature set is comprehensive: the paid version permits printing, PDF conversion, and emailing functionalities, while the free edition displays a full-page advertisement preceding each file open operation.

FIV offers robust support for a variety of image formats including TIFF (including multi-page variants and various compression methods), BMP, DICOM (with animation support), CALS, JEDMICS C4, GIF (including animated), FLI/FLC, PNG (including animated), PGM/PBM/PPM, JPEG (standard and lossless variants), JPEG2000, PCX/DCX, Targa, and multiple fax formats. Additionally, it handles astronomy images in FITS format. PDF support is primarily limited to scanned images such as faxes; the application does not render text or vector graphics within PDFs but handles scanned images efficiently.

The application excels particularly in viewing scanned documents and well logs, offering rapid rendering and smooth page navigation thanks to its proprietary technology. Its ability to decode extremely large images—up to 600 x 600 inches at 400 dpi—is noteworthy and positions it as a leading solution within its niche.
